One of the biggest problems we had when first developing iMobiTrax was getting rid of all the crappy Opera Mini and Mobi traffic. A lot of mobile ad networks have an abundance of this type of traffic. While they say that you may have the choice of targeting it, the fact is, the shit slips through here and there and some advertisers get pissed (especially mobile content billers) because the traffic is useless.
Why is Opera Mobi and Mini Traffic useless?
Well, to those who don’t know how to monetize it, it is worthless because Opera redirects through their own servers and manipulate the headers sent. It’s a lot of Geek speak, let’s just say it’s a real pain in the ass for mobile advertisers whom are not integrated to accept opera billing payments. (See Opera Exchange).
So, with that said, Bill has setup a nice little option for you to redirect Opera Mobi, Mini and all Opera Traffic in your iMobiTrax Redirect Rules Module:
In your iMobiTrax reporting, you will also notice two more options in your Click Data: Opera IP & Opera User Agent
Ruck’s Tip: Remember since you’re iMobiTrax Mobile Ad Tracker is self-hosted, your databases house all of this information that’s being reported to you. This is prime-time to sort through these options and come up with some ideas to get better at coming up with ways to scale your mobile campaigns. For instance, save all of the Opera IP’s and Opera User Agents and later on you can use your iMobiTrax Traffic Blocking and Click Filtering system to optimize and monetize Opera traffic any further.
